Contemporary twists on classic dishes at this London lunch spot.
Bermondsey Street is on the radar of every London foodie, with a range of restaurants, bars, pubs and cafes to satisfy even the fussiest eater. Hard to miss with outdoor wooden decking, suspended lights and a palpable atmosphere, Tanner and Co. is impossible to resist on a sunny day.
Tanner and Co. list all your typical pub grub on their menu and cook this up to a heavenly high standard. Little plates include The Scotch Egg, which comes with a perfect liquid yolk and their Rhubarb Pancakes which are served with a light lemon crème fraîche. With big appetites, we skipped the little plates and looked at the larger main dishes, ordering one Sunday Roast Chicken and one Grilled Chicken Pimp My Salad.
Definitely larger plates, the Sunday Roast was a whole spatchcock chicken and a separate serving of honey roast carrots, seasoned cabbage, roast potatoes and a Yorkshire Pudding.
The Pimp My Salad! was equally generous, with huge strips of grilled honey and mustard chicken layered over avocado, pumpkin and rocket. Still hungry, we tried a Banoffee Sundae - which predictably defeated the two of us. Toffee sauce, banana, ice cream, popcorn and chocolate honeycomb - there was a bit of everything in this monster dessert.
With full stomachs and our fix of sunshine, we loved our trip to Tanner and Co. If you're on the hunt for an awesome outdoor space and seriously upgraded pub style food, book yourself a table now.
